Anyone remember the days before apps were such a crucial part of our everyday work? It was simpler back then—just a website, email, and maybe a few document creation tools in there. But times have changed. Not only do we not work the way we used to, but we don’t purchase software the way we used to either.

Today, there are more apps than people to manage them. The increase in shadow IT is reason enough for companies to more effectively manage (or start managing) their app stack.

Here are a few other common scenarios to be on the lookout for:

  • Monthly subscription fees that cover advanced features, but your team only uses a handful
  • “App overlap” across departments—different apps being used to solve the same problem OR the same app with unnecessary additional licenses
  • Not knowing when to renew or how much it will cost

A software stack takes your full array of technology and transforms it into one cohesive unit that lets people see how all those different solutions work together to drive growth. When properly executed, a tech stack can function as a sort of “central nervous system” that unites teams, eliminates data silos, fosters innovation, and supercharges growth.

Proper tech stack management allows you to:

  • Map out your entire tech ecosystem for easier identification and organization.
  • Properly onboard employees to new tech.
  • Provide more relevant training and resources.
  • Quickly locate and begin using the most appropriate tool for each job.
  • Increase your return on app investment.
